Overview

The SSC Fellowship Program is an expansion of SAF's work in the Carolinas. It is a summer leadership development program for students in TN, VA, PA and NY. SAF trains these bilingual students and prepares them to work with farmworker organizations in their home states. Fellows work towards improvements in farmworkers' lives and working conditions through legal services, health education, and community & labor organizing.

Sowing Seeds for Change
Fellowship

The Sowing Seeds for Change Fellowship is a paid ten-week summer leadership development program for college students looking for an opportunity to learn about migrant farmworkers in their state and to improve farmworkers' living and working conditions. Through two intense trainings, summer field work with a community organization, and a documentary project, Fellows will work towards improvements in farmworkers' lives and working conditions and educate others about the people who bring food to our table.

Fellows will gain access to SAF's resources and 2 trainings on farmworker issues, community & labor organizing, outreach and anti-oppression. They will have hands on experience working directly with farmworkers through a community organization. Fellows will have the opportunity to reflect through weekly journals and document their experience through photography, field notes & interviews. Fellows will network with college students from all over the U.S. and receive ongoing guidance from SAF staff and their local supervisor.
