Moving
the 919: Bull City Bus Stories
August 4–14, 2005
Outdoor installation
Durham teens present an exhibition of photographic and audio stories
exploring the bus system and the role of public transportation in
our community. A DATA bus parked at the Center for Documentary Studies
is the gallery for this exhibition.
The students are creating photo and audio portraits of people they
have met while riding the bus. Through photo installations with
accompanying audio pieces the students will also discuss social
aspects of riding the bus, the different views of Durham one sees
from the bus, and the experiences of DATA passengers. The students
want to show the diversity of bus riders, and thus Durham, through
their experiences and opinions.
Youth Document Durham is a program of the Center for Documentary
Studies at Duke University. Students in the program learn the documentary
arts of photography, interviewing, audio recording, and writing.
The program is supported by grants from the City of Durham and the
Quintiles Give Back Fund and Fund for Women and Girls of Durham
of the Triangle Community Foundation. Special thanks to DATA for
support and the loan of the bus.
