CDS Continuing
Studies Faculty
The Center for Documentary Studies (CDS) at Duke is seeking qualified
teachers of short courses to be offered in partial fulfillment of
our Certificate in Documentary Studies. This certificate is offered
collaboratively through CDS and Duke Continuing Studies. These courses
are focused explorations on aspects of the theory and practice of
documentary work using one or more of the following: ethnography,
photography, oral history, video, and writing. Students for these
courses may run the gamut from experienced artists to community members
engaging in documentary fieldwork for the first time. Practitioners
are encouraged to apply. Teachers are paid by student fees and according
to enrollment in their courses.
Interested applicants should submit a description of the proposed
course(s), including all the significant areas to be covered; a resume
or Curriculum Vitae; the number of classroom hours projected for the
course (we average sixteen hours, though this may vary); a list of
possible handouts or readings; and work samples.
Please send hard copies of the above items to April Walton, Learning
Outreach Director, Center for Documentary Studies, 1317 W. Pettigrew
Street, Durham, NC 27705. If you have questions, E-mail or call April Walton at
awalton@duke.edu or 919-660-3670. No E-mail submissions of course
proposals will be accepted.
